I started a Web Site in 1999 when I came back into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. Tripod decided to block me a few years ago , so I stopped writing, posting. SO I decided to take the posts I had there and put them here. Plus new ones I found on the net and shares of my own. Take what you need and pass on the rest! Blessings ds♥

Change

Every one of us living a sober life has made a major change. It wasn’t easy – and it won’t be the last change we’ll ever need to make.

If you are considering another change that will enhance your life, here are ways to embrace it:

  • Be patient. Change may make you uncomfortable. If the change isn’t dangerous or harmful to you, your sobriety or other people, try to wait out the discomfort.

  • Eat the elephant bite by bite. Switching hot sauce brands can be done quickly, but changing habits or relationships requires more work. Divide your goal into attainable steps that move you closer to the change you seek.

  • Appreciate your life. Be grateful for what you have, even as you seek to make a change.
  • Grow your wisdom. Meditate and pray. Talk to your sponsor and those you respect. Read. Others’ views and opinions will help you gain perspective, consider new ideas and stay on course.

  • Understand the ripple effect. When you change, it will impact those around you. Family dynamics may shift; work patterns may be disrupted; friendships may be lost. Avoid discouragement by preparing yourself for people’s possible reactions.

  • Take the long view. Scarlett O’Hara said, “After all, tomorrow is another day,” and she was right. Your best effort may not work today. Tomorrow, you can apply your head and heart to the situation once again.

  • Celebrate interim successes. Acknowledge your achievements.

Recovery is proof that changes can improve our lives. If a change will make your life better, go for it!
