Dr. Bob did the first nine Steps in his first day of recovery. AA Number Three did them in a few days. Now we have people "in recovery" who take one Step a year.
What's gone wrong?
Life in recovery is lived in the last three Steps. Making it to the last three Steps requires working the first nine Steps. So we should get on with it.
Many old-timers maintain the first nine Steps can't be worked quickly. That's because they're still doing them themselves, instead of living in the last three.
