I started a Web Site in 1999 when I came back into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. Tripod decided to block me a few years ago , so I stopped writing, posting. SO I decided to take the posts I had there and put them here. Plus new ones I found on the net and shares of my own. Take what you need and pass on the rest! Blessings ds♥
"The minute I stopped arguing, I could begin
to see and feel. Right there, Step Two gently and very gradually began to
infiltrate my life. I can't say upon what occasion or upon what day I came
to believe in a Power greater than myself, but I certainly have that belief
now. To acquire it, I had only to stop fighting and practice the rest of
A.A.'s program as enthusiastically as I could."
TWELVE
STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 27
After years of indulging in a "self-will run riot," Step Two became for
me a glorious release from being all alone. Nothing is so painful or
insurmountable in my journey now.
We live our program in
one day portions - and our actions today have immediate consequences.
For instance, if we listen to a brother or a sister in the program, we
may be enriched and the other person strengthened for today's challenge.
We don't have to confront every temptation of life on this day - only
the portion we can handle. Our old insanity would have us predict the
entire story of our future from today's limited viewpoint. But our
spiritual orientation guides us to restrain ourselves. We simply live in
this moment.
The INSANITY of Alcoholism is NOT the
goofy behavior that people exhibit when they are drunk. Everyone who
ingests enough alcohol will act goofy.
The INSANITY of ALCOHOLISM is the alcoholic's persistent return to alcohol in the face of overwhelming evidence that it is destroying his or her life, over and over again.
There are some in our fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous who have
serious mental problems, but most of us joke about how "insane" or
"crazy" or "goofy" we are or have been, when what we really are talking
about is our emotional immaturity, our impulsiveness, our lack of
self-discipline – our character defects if you will. Most of us would
have a hard time describing many of our thoughts and actions as being
insane. In fact, in some areas of life, we may exhibit a high degree of
sanity.
However, there is something about the way we perceive the world around
us that has always caused us a great deal of discomfort in simply living
our lives.
We
have this choice every day of our lives. We can take the path that
leads to insanity and death (and remember, our next drunk could be our
last one). Or we can take the path that leads to a reasonably happy and
useful life. The choice is ours each day of our lives. God grant that we
take the right path. Have I made my choice today?
We can't hear God's voice when we're judging someone.
We don't always want to hear God's voice. There are moments when we love
the power we feel while judging others. The high is short- lived,
however. Inevitably we experience guilt commensurate with our judgments.
Fortunately, God's voice of love and forgiveness quietly waits for our
willingness to hear it. We'll not see our experiences or our companions
the same way when we listen to God's message regarding them. Why would
we ever choose to turn away?
